Many homes and businesses located in standard flood zones will be now located in a preferred flood zone -X zone- and and should see a drop in premium. Properties in X zones typically are not required by mortgage companies to carry flood insurance but it is still highly recommended that flood insurance be purchased regardless of your zone. Overall though for most property owners in New Orleans we anticipate premiums will go down, although many will find themselves paying more and being forced to buy a policy for the first time.
